Incredible Mosque Projection Mapping

Incredible Mosque Projection Mapping:

In celebration of the 40th Anniversary of the United Arab Emirates National Day, a magically divine light show was orchestrated by Obscura Digital, a creative agency based in San Francisco, which developed the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Projections Project. The company did its research and were clearly prepared to honor the rich history of Abu Dhabi in their light projections through their skilled employment of three-dimension mapping. The beautiful floral and geometric designs found in the mosque's own architecture were echoed and heightened through the colorful light show. By configuring their forty-four projectors appropriately, they were able to illuminate the walls, four curved minarets, and twelve domes of the mosque without distorting the engaging projected designs. Be sure to check out the video of the light installation, below.

Magnificent Toy Car Rainbow

Magnificent Toy Car Rainbow:

Artist David T. Waller used 2,500 old toy cars to create Toy Atlas Rainbow, a beautiful installation that won the People’s Award at the Arts Depot Open in 2010. The cars in the installation are arranged in a circular pattern according to their color, making a beautiful rainbow out of Hot Wheels cars. It is clear that a lot of time and effort went into constructing the installation, as the cars are not only separated by color but they are also carefully organized to make a gradient - going from light to dark. For example, light blue cars are separated from the dark blues ones. Check out Waller's website for more stunning artwork. His pieces consist of a variety of mediums and techniques both from fine art and free-form approaches.

Extraordinary Carved Out Book Landscapes

Extraordinary Carved Out Book Landscapes:

It's hard to believe that these detailed sculptures were once encyclopedias. Interdisciplinary artist Guy Laramee redesigns old volumes of information-heavy books that have descended into obsoleteness, going untouched in this present age of technology, into thoroughly sculpted landscapes. The meticulous carving involved in the textured detail of his creations are astounding. Laramee creates vivid illusions of different concrete materials and indefinitely shaped elements like liquids. I am baffled by the effective appearance of rippling water in one of his solid structures and the different shapes he works with.

Two of the artist's series, entitled The Great Wall and Biblios, feature these intricately crafted pieces using old books. Of his material choice and the thought process behind recreating mountains, the artist says:

"Mountains of disused knowledge return to what they really are: mountains. They erode a bit more and they become hills. Then they flatten and become fields where apparently nothing is happening. Piles of obsolete encyclopedias return to that which does not need to say anything, that which simply IS."

The expert sculptor has a history of mastery in other forms of art as well. In his 30 years of practice, Laramee has touched upon varied forms of art, including musical instrument design, composing, singing, painting, sculpting, stage writing and directing. His next show is set to be held at the Galerie d’Art d’Outremont in April 2012.
