Jedi Guinea Pig and Other Great Cavine Heroes

Jedi Guinea Pig and Other Great Cavine Heroes:

Jedi Knight
Judge him by his size? By his furriness? This guinea pig, like the others painted by Lesley DeSantis, will defy your expectations.

Oil Truck Turned into a Massive Portable Grill

Oil Truck Turned into a Massive Portable Grill:
oil truck
When the lid is closed, this truck looks like all the other tankers at Ken Foster's oil delivery company. But this beauty is made to cook meat in huge quantities:
Then, with the push of a button, the whole thing cracks apart, opening like a giant set of aluminum jaws. And inside sits a traveling kitchen, complete with four-burner stove, 42-inch grill and stainless steel prep counter. [...]
Foster, the owner of Hall Oil and grill store Breakaway in South Dennis, first began planning the mobile grill set-up about a year ago, when he was deciding what to do with an old oil tank truck.
He took his vision to welder Gary Webb, of Gary's Truck Equipment in Harwich, and the two began collaborating on a design.
"I told him my idea of how I would like to do it," Webb said. "I also told him it was a gamble — I could cut it apart and say, 'This isn't going to work."
The work was challenging, Webb said. He had to be very careful to ensure that the aluminum tank maintained its shape, so it would fit correctly when closed.
He also had to custom design and fabricate all of the components, from hinges to hydraulic systems.

Dr. Seuss Cake

Dr. Seuss Cake:

Oh the Calories You'll Eat! Kellie's award-winning cake shows characters and backgrounds from several different Dr. Seuss books. I would eat it on a boat. And I would eat it with a goat. And I would eat it in the rain. And in the dark. And on a train.

Opalized Dinosaur Tooth

Opalized Dinosaur Tooth:

Surely you've seen fossils in museums, but what about this: opalized
dinosaur tooth. Opalized fossils occur when silica settled into cracks
in the dinosaur bone and then hardened into opal. This one above is a
particularly fantastic specimen: an opalized
theropod dinosaur tooth
from the Australian Museum.

Have a Sleepover with My Neighbor Totoro

Have a Sleepover with My Neighbor Totoro:
Totoro bed
When I was growing up, my brother and I had Charlie Brown sheets. We had nothing like this cozy Totoro bed set – perhaps because the movie didn’t come out until 1988, and I had moved on from cartoon sheet sets by then. But don’t let that stop you now – use this tutorial at Cut Out + Keep to make your own Totoro bedding, complete with head pillow to watch over you while you sleep.
What other bed sets might this inspire you to make? Perhaps a giant Snorlax?

Illustrated Moonrise Kingdom script available to download screenshot

Focus Features has released online an illustrated version of Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola's Academy Award nominated script for their 2012 film, Moonrise Kingdom. You can click through the script on their website and download a .pdf file to keep for yourself. It features stills from the final cut of the movie as well as handwritten storyboards penned by Wes Anderson himself.
I've included some images from the illustrated script below, but everything else can be found on Focus Features' website. I am totally in love with this script, the illustrations, still images and drawings are amazing. Any fan of Moonrise Kingdom should totally check it out!

The Reader's Thumbprint of Literature

The Reader's Thumbprint of Literature:
PoetryPoetry
What literature moves you? You can have an enormous thumbprint image of the works that speak to you. Cheryl Sorg, an artist in Boston, cuts up the covers and lines of great works of literature that appeal to individual readers:
Sorg works with her subjects to gather their favorite books, book quotes, song lyrics, movies, and anything culturally meaningful to them that can be found in text. Once Sorg has her list, she finds the corresponding text and cuts it up into tiny strands that she weaves and curves into the actual thumbprint.
I can immediately think of lines from Shardik, Anthem and So Long and Thanks for All the Fish that I'd choose. Which passages would you want on your thumbprint?

This Labyrinth Cake Will Give You the Best Kind of ’80s Flashbacks

This Labyrinth Cake Will Give You the Best Kind of ’80s Flashbacks:

Nothing transports me back through time like seeing David Bowie as Jareth even if it’s just on a cake. This inventive snow globe confection by Black Cherry Cake Company has it all. It centers on Jareth sitting on his throne, complete with glittery eye shadow, and he’s accompanied by Ludo and The Worm. I can’t pick a favorite part so I’ll just call out the fact that the baker is a master at including the details.
Check out more photos and a video showing off the cake after the break.
