At A Theater Near You of the Day: Hot on the heels of Thursday’s announcement that Jennifer Lopez is helping Walden Media adapt Carmen Sandiego for the big screen, MGM revealed today that it has picked up the rights to Sandiego’s partner in stealth, Waldo, with the aim of the producing the striped-shirted sneak’s first feature film.
“We are thrilled to be bringing the search for Waldo to the big screen,” said MGM’s Jonathan Glickman in a statement. “Along with our partners at Classic Media, we look forward to making a worldwide adventure that will appeal to Where’s Waldo? fans of all ages.” The “live-action family adventure” will be overseen by MGM’s VP of production Cassidy Lange and executive produced by Mike Gornall.
Several other studios, most notably Nickelodeon and Universal, have attempted to develop Where’s Waldo features in year’s past, but were unsuccessful.
